Stories of Otherness

Tindall Foundation ‘Stories of Otherness’ Podcasts is a 4 part series. These first hand accounts are here to educate and help people to speak up. We want to debunk some of the common myths around migration today, focus on people as individuals, become aware of our own unconscious biases and open up to the idea of broadening social circles and understanding multidimensional and intersectional identities. The episodes are true stories that cover some serious topics that could be upsetting to some audiences

How to make a wire headband by the Global Stitch up

Watch Wendy and Johanna make a wire headband. Headbands for Hospice is inspired by Hannah Straker, a wonderful woman who sadly left this world 2 days before Christmas 2023. She had lived with cancer for many years but managed to live life to the full and even in her final days wanted to raise money for the Hospice. Wearing a wig or beanie is not always comfortable after chemotherapy (especially during the summer). Hannah was known for her stylish dress and panache (one of her favourite words). She discovered wire headbands and suggested that the Global Stitch up make them and raise money for the Hospice who had looked after her so carefully with aroha. Global Stitch Up At Cultural Conversations, we strive to create a place and space where people can come together and build a shared sense of belonging, enriching individual wellbeing and resilience. Cultural Conversations is a community-based arts hub that facilitates opportunities for people from Nelson’s former refugee and migrant communities to share music, art and storytelling through creative programmes, workshops, and events. The primary outcome of these sessions is to enhance knowledge, awareness, and appreciation for the cultural diversity that makes up the Nelson region as well as wider Aotearoa New Zealand. Chapati Party Dreams and Aspirations.

Cultural Conversations over dinner. We invited our team and past storytellers for dinner and conversation. This was accompanied by Kalpana from mixed roots (and the original spice girl) telling her own stories of what can be made from one dough. The evening included asking dinner guests what their dreams and aspirations were which we put into a short film. Filmed by Claire Watson, Jason Oldfield Thanks to Morrison Square for the use of their space.
